Ski Report #37-38: Sugarbush- March 13-14, 2010
Mar 24th, 2010 by Jim Schley
Saturday was a tough day at the mountain. Reports of a fantastic, sunny string of spring-like weekdays leading up to the weekend were not welcome on a cloudy, dreary, windy, Saturday morning where apparently temps dropped just low enough on Friday night to freeze the snowpack completely solid. It was unexpected, too, as temps were above freezing when I went to bed and when I woke up. This led to a very precarious run down Snowball for my warmup, where I was not only unable to hold an edge, I was unable to make tracks in the groomer corduroy. The trails off Gatehouse were a little bit better, but it was a pretty crappy day, and we hit the bar pretty early. Sunday had crappier weather but better skiing. Warmer temps and rain softened the snow surface making for easy turns. The gore-tex kept us somewhat dry although my Blackberry was an unfortunate casualty when the pocket it was in filled with rainwater. doh! 111/111 trails open at Sugarbush. 178 inches of snow so far this season.
